The 2024 NFL Draft was a successful one for the Green Bay Packers. They didn’t have too many real head-scratching selections, as each of their picks made sense to some degree. The most important takeaway was that they filled needs without sacrificing value with their selections.
The Packers needed to come away with several players capable of producing right away. Not only are they an ascending team in the NFC, but they had five selections in the first 91 picks thanks to previous trades that were made.
Over at PFF, Trevor Sikkema liked what he saw from Green Bay. He gave them a B+ grade, as they should have immediate contributors up and down this draft class. The offensive line was bolstered with Jordan Morgan, their first-round pick, Jacob Monk, their fifth-round pick and sixth-round pick Travis Glover.
Both fit the mold of what the Packers look for in offensive linemen. They have the versatility to play several different spots across the unit, providing depth and maneuverability for Matt LaFleur and his offensive staff. With starters David Bakhtiari and Jon Runyan Jr. no longer on the team, offensive line depth was important to find.
The secondary also received some love, as three safeties were selected. This has been a problem area in recent seasons for Green Bay, but they shored it up in free agency signing Xavier McKinney away from the New York Giants. Now, the depth is greatly improved as well.
In Round 2, the team selected Javon Bullard out of Georgia. Evan Williams was selected in the fourth round, with Kitan Oladapo coming off the board in Round 5. With their final pick of the draft, No. 255 in the seventh round, they added cornerback Kalen King as well.
Offensively, the Packers may have found a new backup for Jordan Love with Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt. A new weapon was added to the backfield as well in MarShawn Lloyd. He will combine with AJ Dillon to spell free agent splash signing, Josh Jacobs.
