There are a lot of people who thought the Green Bay Packers were in for a long, difficult season with Jordan Love as their starting quarterback. A first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah State, Jordan Love hadn’t seen much action outside of the preseason the first three seasons of his career.
He spent that time as the backup to Aaron Rodgers, starting one game and making 10 appearances overall, throwing only 83 passes. There wasn’t much confidence that he could get the job done, but he has proven plenty of his doubters wrong in the early going.
While the jury is still out overall on Jordan Love, through three games, he has proven that he won’t be the complete disaster many people believed he would be. If anything, he has shown that he is for real during these games.
There have been some hiccups, which are expected when a new player is taking over an offense. His accuracy has been inconsistent at times, but the Packers are 2-1 thus far. If not for a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 when Green Bay blew a 12-point lead, they could be 3-0.
That poor performance in Week 2 was erased in Week 3 as Jordan Love and the offense flipped the script. This time it was the Packers who overcame a deficit, scoring 18 points in the final stanza to come away with an improbable 18-17 victory.
Just how impressive was the comeback? The New Orleans Saints’ percentage chance of winning was as high as 97.6 percent. The victory was also a historic one for the Packers. According to IKE Packers Podcast, it was the largest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history.
As pointed out in the tweet, that accomplishment is even more impressive when taking into account how much talent around Jordan Love was missing. Wide receiver Christian Watson, running back Aaron Jones, left tackle David Bakhtiari and left guard Elgton Jenkins all missed the game because of injury.
The circumstances in which Jordan Love has had to deal with early in the season were far from ideal; their projected starting lineup has yet to play a single snap together. But, he has not let that deter him, as he is playing well and leading the team to victories.
