There are a lot of players on the Green Bay Packers that are stepping into sizable roles for the first time in their careers. It had led to difficulties projecting how well the team could play this season as the sample size is so small.
While some people see 2023 as a reset year for the Packers, there are a lot of people who are playing for their jobs this season. It is a make-or-break campaign for plenty, and in the opinion of Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, there isn’t a player that falls under that category more than quarterback Jordan Love.
“Love should get more than one year to prove himself, but he may not have another chance to do so in Green Bay if the Packers fall to the bottom of the standings and secure a high draft pick. Aside from Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, a handful of quarterback prospects could draw interest from teams that will consider a quarterback in the first round of next year’s draft.”
Love has the tall task of replacing Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback in Green Bay. That adds to the pressure that already exists for a player looking to live up to expectations of being a first-round pick.
All eyes will be on him as Green Bay has already signed him to a contract extension as well. But, his Packers teammates have a ton of confidence in Love getting the job done, as multiple players have spoken highly about his leadership and development this offseason.
The decision to move on from Rodgers and turn to Love as the starter will have an impact on the Packers for years to come. There is a quiet confidence within the organization that he will be able to succeed, but what will it take for the Packers to commit to him beyond 2023?
While everyone on the team wants to make the playoffs, there are likely a separate set of goals that the Packers have for Love to achieve to maintain his standing as the starter in 2024. Showing that he can keep the team competitive despite the overall lack of experience on the roster would certainly be a good look.
