The Green Bay Packers don’t have too many established players on the offensive side of the ball. There will be some bumps in the road given the inexperience of the unit as a whole, but things should go well whenever Aaron Jones’ number is called.
Jones, who is entering his seventh season in the NFL, is the most experienced skill position player that the Packers have coming into the season. He is going to be relied upon heavily as the team looks to ease Jordan Love into the starting quarterback role.
Green Bay’s offense will be in good hands with Jones, who is not only one of the best running backs in the NFL but overall players. He was recently recognized as such by NFL.com, where he landed at No. 64 in the Top 100 Player Rankings for 2023.
It is the third time that Jones has landed on the list, as he was also selected in 2020 and 2021. In those years, the Packers’ star running back landed at No. 33 and No. 31, respectively. After a one-year hiatus off the list, Jones is back, and rightfully so.
He was excellent for the Packers in 2022, carrying the ball 213 times for 1,121 yards, which was a career-high, to go along with two touchdowns. One of the best dual-threat running backs in the league, Jones added 59 receptions for 395 yards and five more scores. He was also second in the NFL, behind only Christian McCaffrey, with 5.3 yards per carry.
Jones continues to move up the ranks as one of the best offensive-skill position players the Packers have had in their history. He ranks third in team history in rushing yards with 5,284 and is fourth in rushing touchdowns with 43.
While he won’t be moving up in the yardage category, Jones has a chance to break into the top two or three in rushing touchdowns with a big season. Given how often he will be touching the ball in the Packers’ offense in 2023, there is a chance we see some big numbers from Jones.
