With training camps around the NFL opening in just a few weeks, that means one thing; Fantasy Football season is almost here. While the landscape of Fantasy Football has changed and some leagues are already underway, things are going to start to really pick up soon.
For managers, the Green Bay Packers likely aren’t a team that will be targeted too much. There are a few players that deserve consideration for Fantasy Football teams, but with a changing of the guard on offense, no one really knows what to expect from this unit.
There are very few certainties about the Packers’ offense right now, but one of them is that Aaron Jones will be the starting running back. Jones has been a stalwart in the team’s backfield for the last five seasons and has helped out plenty of Fantasy Football managers over that span of time.
In 2022, Jones was productive once again. He gained 1,121 yards on the ground with two touchdowns, adding 59 receptions for 395 yards and seven more scores. The only negative to his season was fumbling, as he had five of them.
Alas, he was still one of the better running back options you could find as a Fantasy Football manager as his pass-catching skills provide him with a strong weekly floor. Heading into the 2022 season, his outlook is good once again as he should be relied upon early and often as the Packers break in a new starting quarterback in Jordan Love.
However, Love’s presence seems to be something that Jones is being docked for in the early going. He was shockingly left off the list of top-10 running backs by average draft position from FantasyPros.
While some of the names on that list are certainly qualified, it is surprising to see Atlanta Falcons rookie Bijan Robinson ranked so high. If Jones is being knocked for having to share the backfield with AJ Dillon, Robinson should be knocked for the same thing as the Falcons have a lot of mouths to feed in the backfield.
Jonathan Taylor and Tony Pollard are both working their way back from injuries, which could lead some Fantasy Football managers to be disappointed in the early part of the season. While dominant on the ground, Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry offers virtually nothing in the passing game, which can sometimes cap their Fantasy Football value.
Seeing Jones outside of the top-10 running backs selected is certainly eye-opening. There are going to be a lot of Fantasy Football managers thrilled to see him drop on their draft day to scoop up as a vocal point of the Packers’ offensive attack.
