Davante Adams and the Green Bay Packers are getting set to open up training camp ahead of the 2021 NFL season and there are a lot of questions still swirling around the franchise. Obviously, the biggest question is the status of reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. He has yet to open up about his situation and whether or not he will play this season, which has led the Packers to begin preparing second-year quarterback Jordan Love for the starting job.
Whether or not Rodgers or Love starts at quarterback, the Packers have one plan for their offense. Matt LaFleur is confident in his team’s ability to win big regardless of which quarterback is under center in Week 1.
With the season right around the corner, Adams opened up about Love and shared his confidence in the young quarterback’s ability to be the team’s starter if that ends up being the situation.
“He’s shown that he’s locked in and ready to assume whatever role that he has to and go out there and play.”
Hearing those words from arguably the NFL’s best wide receiver is a breath of fresh air for fans. Granted, no one should be expecting Love to play at Rodgers’ level, but he doesn’t have too. Green Bay simply would need him to take care of the football and focus on being a quality game manager.
Love is in a great situation if he does end up having to be the starter this early in his career. Having a star like Adams as his top target will make things a lot easier. The Packers also have a ton of talent behind Adams at the wide receiver position in Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Amari Rodgers, and Devin Funchess.
Of course, the Packers’ Super Bowl chances would take a major hit if Rodgers doesn’t play. They have made it to back-to-back NFC Championship Games, but have lost in both of those. Last year, they fell at home against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Expect to hear more about the Rodgers situation in the near future. If he chooses to sit out or the Packers decide to cut their losses and trade him, Davante Adams and company sound like they have full confidence in Jordan Love as their new starter to lead the way.
