Former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Dean Lowry has signed with the New York Giants’ practice squad, according to multiple reports on Monday.

The 32-year-old’s arrival in New York was delayed from an earlier September agreement because of injury issues.

“Finally, it’s happening: The Giants are signing veteran DL Dean Lowry to their practice squad, per source,” The Athletic’s Dan Duggan wrote on X.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler confirmed the move, writing, “Free agent DL Dean Lowry is finally signing with the Giants today, source confirms. An injury stalled initial plans but he’s now healthy, a Giant.”

The Packers selected Lowry in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Northwestern.

He spent seven seasons in Green Bay from 2016 through 2022 and became a full-time starter beginning in 2017. Lowry appeared in 111 games with the Packers and started 80 of them during his time with the team.

He recorded the bulk of his 16.5 career sacks and 271 career tackles while playing in Green Bay.

His best statistical year came in 2021, when he posted a career-high 5.0 sacks while starting all 17 games for the Packers. In 2019, Lowry started every game, finished with 47 tackles and recorded his only career interception. He also recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in 2017, earning NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Lowry left Green Bay after the 2022 season and signed with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency in 2023.

Injuries limited him to nine games with the Vikings before he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He played in 12 games for Pittsburgh that year before tearing his ACL and missing the entire 2025 season.

The Giants, who lead the NFC East at 4-2-1 and are on their Week 8 bye, added Lowry for interior defensive line depth after trading Dexter Lawrence earlier this year.

Lowry’s experience could help support starters D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris if he is elevated from the practice squad.

The 6-foot-6, 296-pound lineman earned roughly $33.8 million over his career, with the majority coming during his Packers tenure.

His addition gives the former Packers starter a chance to return to the field in his 10th NFL season after sitting out all of last year.

The Packers, meanwhile, are 4-3 after a 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and host the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football.
