Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden faces an uncertain status for Thursday Night Football against the Carolina Panthers after sitting out practice for a second straight day.
The team’s injury report, released Tuesday, October 27, lists the second-year receiver as a non-participant with both a foot injury and a lingering shoulder issue.
The combination arrives on a short week following Green Bay’s 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions, leaving little time for recovery before the primetime contest at Lambeau Field.
Golden had already been managing the shoulder problem in the lead-up to the Lions game and played the full contest, catching six passes for 39 yards on a team-high 12 targets.
The foot injury is a newer concern, and consecutive days without practice have raised red flags about his availability.
Packers Wire reporter Zach Kruse noted that both Golden and offensive lineman Travis Glover appear in danger of missing the Thursday night matchup, a development that could thin an already taxed receiving corps.
The Packers’ injury list extends well beyond Golden. Linebacker Zaire Franklin continues to deal with a hairline fracture in his shin suffered during practice ahead of the Lions loss. The team has not placed him on injured reserve, yet consecutive days without practice make his participation against Carolina difficult to envision.
Center Sean Rhyan, meanwhile, is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering an ankle injury during the game at Ford Field.
He sat out both estimated and actual sessions early in the week, and a short turnaround only compounds the challenge. His absence represents a significant setback for an offensive line already dealing with depth concerns.
Golden’s absence, should it materialize, would force Green Bay to adjust its passing attack on limited preparation time.
He has emerged as a consistent target in the offense this season despite occasional drops, and his speed creates vertical threats that defenses must respect.
With the Panthers arriving for a nationally televised game, the Packers will need to determine quickly whether Golden can progress from non-participant status in Wednesday’s session or whether they must plan without him. The same evaluation applies to Glover and the rest of the injury list as Green Bay tries to stabilize its roster for a pivotal midweek contest.
Officials and coaches have not yet issued final designations, so the situation remains fluid heading into the final practice of the week.
Still, the early indications point to a challenging Thursday night for a Packers team that has already absorbed several key setbacks on both sides of the ball.
