The Green Bay Packers have reached out to the Philadelphia Eagles about linebacker Zack Baun as the Nov. 10 trade deadline nears, according to a report from Packer Report’s Easton Butler.
Butler posted that the Packers called the Eagles about Baun and that Philadelphia appears open to offers involving several players. In a follow-up, Butler added that he does not expect Green Bay to complete a deal for the veteran.
Baun, 29, has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ defense since joining the team in 2024. He signed a three-year, $51 million contract in March 2025 that includes $34 million in guarantees and runs through the 2027 season.
The Wisconsin product earned first-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection in 2024 after recording 151 tackles, 3.5 sacks and five forced fumbles while helping Philadelphia win Super Bowl LIX. He followed with another Pro Bowl campaign in 2025.
Through the early portion of the 2026 season, Baun has remained productive, posting roughly 40-50 tackles and solid grades that rank him among the top off-ball linebackers in the league by Pro Football Focus metrics. He continues to log heavy snap counts.
The Packers enter the final stretch of the trade window at 4-3 after a 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions. They have faced significant injuries at linebacker, including a season-ending torn Achilles for Edgerrin Cooper.
Zaire Franklin, a Pro Bowl selection acquired earlier in the year, has also dealt with a shin injury that has limited his availability. Depth options such as Isaiah McDuffie and Ty’Ron Hopper have been asked to shoulder larger roles as a result.
Philadelphia sits at 2-5 after five straight losses and has already made in-season moves. The Eagles have younger linebackers on the roster who could step into larger roles if Baun is moved before the deadline.
Any potential trade would likely require Green Bay to absorb a significant portion of Baun’s remaining contract while surrendering draft capital. Contending teams have previously been linked to the linebacker amid speculation about Philadelphia’s plans.
The Packers’ interest aligns with their need for experienced coverage and run-support help in the middle of the defense. Baun’s college background at Wisconsin could ease any transition into the Green Bay scheme.
League-wide activity has already included several notable deals ahead of the Nov. 10 cutoff at 4 p.m. ET. Teams still in contention have shown willingness to add proven veterans even with limited remaining games.
Whether the Packers pursue the inquiry further remains unclear. Butler’s assessment suggests Green Bay may ultimately look elsewhere to address its linebacker needs.
The Eagles’ willingness to listen on multiple players indicates a broader evaluation of their roster as they sit near the bottom of the NFC East. Outcomes will depend on the return offered and each team’s short-term priorities.
