CBS Sports recently announced their 2024 All-Breakout Team. Making the list was a young defensive player from the Green Bay Packers, Karl Brooks.
As we get ready for training camp in the NFL, one team that a lot of people are keeping their eye on this season is the Green Bay Packers. After exceeding expectations last season and winning a playoff game, the young Packers are hungry to get better in 2024.
With such a young team, the Packers certainly have room for improvement heading into 2024. Recently, CBS Sports named their 2024 All-Breakout Team.
A few Packers made the list, one of which being defensive tackle, Karl Brooks. Here’s what they had to say about the selection of Brooks and Jalen Carter as the defensive tackles poised to break out.
Defensive tackles: Jalen Carter, Eagles; Karl Brooks, Packers
Carter recorded six sacks as a rookie and it seemed as though he was destined for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Although Year 1 could be considered a success, there is another level for him to take his game. The ex-Bulldog was credited with 37.2 pass rush pressures by TruMedia, which ranked No. 38 among all players. The other spot was a hotly-contested three-horse race between Bears interior defender German Dexter Sr., Steelers interior defender Keeanu Benton and Brooks . Dexter and Brooks had similar pressure rates — 10.4% and 10.3%, respectively — whereas Benton is more of a run stuffer.
Carter was an easy choice for the first spot at defensive tackle, as the former first-round pick is poised for a big season. Brooks making the list is very exciting news for the Green Bay Packers, as he is the anchor in the middle of their defense.
Despite being a defensive tackle, Brooks is also a pretty good pass rusher from the position. Getting after the quarterback in the NFL is extremely important with the passing game being so prevalent.
The Green Bay Packers could use the defense to improve a touch this season and having a breakout season from Karl Brooks would help that.
