ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said Thursday that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love looks like a video game when the pocket stays clean.
The comments came on “The Pat McAfee Show” hours before the Packers hosted the Atlanta Falcons in their home opener on Thursday Night Football.
“If it’s clean [the pocket] Jordan Love is a video game. It’s cookie cutter, it’s accurate, it’s laser, very very in sync with Watson and Golden and now Tucker Kraft being back,” Herbstreit said.
A clip of the remarks spread quickly among Packers fans, including a post from the account Packers Lead that featured video from the show.
Love has completed 37 of 71 passes for 532 yards, four touchdowns and one interception through two games. His 52.1 percent completion rate is well below the 66.3 percent he posted last season, when he threw for 3,381 yards and 23 touchdowns in 15 games.
Protection has been the central problem. The Packers have used five different offensive line combinations in two weeks. Right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon suffered against the New York Jets. Guard Aaron Banks was ruled out for Thursday’s game.
Love was sacked seven times in the first two weeks. In a Week 1 loss at Minnesota he threw for 387 yards and two scores but faced constant pressure. In a rainy overtime win at the Jets he completed 16 of 29 passes for only 145 yards.
Christian Watson has been the most explosive target. The fifth-year receiver has 10 catches for 188 yards and three touchdowns, including an 81-yard score against the Vikings.
Second-year wide receiver Matthew Golden, the Packers’ 2025 first-round pick, has 10 receptions for 153 yards on 18 targets. Coach Matt LaFleur named him the team’s offensive player of the game after the Jets win, citing both his catches and two pass-interference penalties he drew.
Tight end Tucker Kraft is working his way back from a torn ACL that ended his 2025 season after eight games. Before the injury he had 32 catches for 489 yards and six touchdowns. Kraft has played significant snaps in the first two games of 2026 while still building toward a full workload.
Green Bay is 1-1 and cannot afford a 1-2 start at Lambeau Field. The Falcons enter 0-2 and will start quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in his 2026 debut after missing time with an injury.
The Packers are also without star edge rusher Micah Parsons and wide receiver Jayden Reed, who suffered a neck injury on the opening drive against the Jets and is undergoing further evaluation.
Herbstreit’s praise focused on what Love can do when given time. That has been a scarce commodity so far. The Packers’ running game ranks last in the NFL at 64.5 yards per game, putting even more weight on the passing attack.
Love’s average depth of target has been 10.1 yards, and he has shown the downfield accuracy Herbstreit described on several big plays. The question Thursday is whether a patched-together line can give him enough clean pockets against Atlanta.
Packers fans circulating the clip hope the home opener produces more of the “cookie cutter” throws Herbstreit highlighted rather than another night of hurried decisions and sacks.
A win would even Green Bay’s record and give the offense a chance to build rhythm with Watson, Golden and Kraft on the field together. A loss would leave the Packers searching for answers on a short week that already exposed how thin the offensive line has become.
