The tune surrounding the Green Bay Packers and their starting quarterback Jordan Love is beginning to change. Coming into the offseason, there were a lot of doubters and people who didn’t have much confidence in many wins occurring in Green Bay this fall.
It is easy to see why people would be down on the Packers. Love, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL, has one career start and 10 appearances in the regular season. He has thrown only 83 career passes with a majority of his work coming in practice and preseason games.
Love has the tall task of having to replace a legend in Aaron Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets. But, there are some analysts who are now beginning to believe that the Packers may have been overlooked throughout the offseason.
First, it was Rich Eisen, suggesting that the Packers are being overlooked and citing the performance of Love and the offense in the preseason. Green Bay’s first-team offense did look good in three games against the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
Pat McAfee jumped on the bandwagon as well. He made some bold comments about Love, believing that he will continue the legacy that has been built before him. Brett Favre and Rodgers provided the team with 30 years of Hall of Fame production and McAfee has seen enough that he believes that kind of production will continue.
Joining the growing list of Love supporters is now Mike Greenberg. A die-hard Jets fan ecstatic the team landed Rodgers, he doesn’t believe the Packers are being left in as bad of a spot as some people do. In fact, he thinks they will be great in Green Bay.
“I think Jordan Love is going to be a star,” Greenberg said during a recent episode of Get Up on ESPN.
That is certainly a very bold take for Greenberg to share. While Love is short on regular season experience, the transition should be easier than people think. There will be bumps in the road given how inexperienced his supporting cast is as well, but this is an offense he is heading into Year 4 as being a part of.
Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff have full confidence in him being able to run it to perfection when the games count. Don’t be surprised if the Packers surprise a lot of teams overlooking them during the season.
