The Green Bay Packers got off on the right foot in the 2023 season, defeating the Chicago Bears 38-20 in Week 1. They will be looking for their first winning streak in Week 2, heading on the road to play against the Atlanta Falcons.
Winning on the road in the NFL is not an easy thing to do. Sweeping a road trip like the one that the Packers are wrapping up this weekend is an even tougher thing to do. But to do that in the first two weeks of the season? Now that is history in the making.
According to Matt Schdneiman of The Athletic, this is only the third time in Packers history that they have begun the season with two straight road games. The last time it occurred was in 2016 when they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 before being defeated by the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.
To find the other instance you need to go back nearly 100 years to 1924 when the Packers lost to the Duluth Kelleys and Chicago Cardinals. Green Bay lost the first game 6-3 before being shutout 3-0 in the second.
Should the Packers be fortunate enough to pull off a victory on Sunday afternoon, it would be historical. No team in franchise history has ever started the season on the road for the first two games of the season and went 2-0, but this year’s team has a chance to do so.
It would be quite a feat for the youngest, most inexperienced roster in the NFL after Week 1 to not only start the season 2-0 but pick up both victories on the road. That would give the team a ton of confidence to continue building momentum for the rest of the season.
The Falcons snapped a five-year drought last week, picking up a Week 1 victory for the first time since 2017. That was also the last time that Atlanta started the season with multiple victories without a loss, as they went 3-0 before losing in Week 4 to the Buffalo Bills.
