We are days away from the Jordan Love era beginning for the Green Bay Packers. It will officially start on Sunday afternoon when the Packers take on their NFC North rivals, the Chicago Bears in Week 1 of the 2023 regular season.
All eyes are going to be on Love, who has the tall task of replacing the legendary Aaron Rodgers as the team’s starting quarterback. After making only 10 appearances, including one start, in three seasons as his backup, it is anyone’s guess how Love will look when he steps on the field.
However, if the preseason is any indication of things to come, it won’t be as disastrous as some people believed. Many people have written the Packers off for the 2023 season already, but Love looked good during his time on the field in training camp and preseason.
He led at least one touchdown drive against the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. Most importantly, he didn’t throw any interceptions; the only turnover was a miscommunication with center Josh Myers on an inadvertent snap.
Those live game reps will only help prepare Love for what lies ahead. Heading into Week 1, he recently revealed one area that he is looking to improve in. In his opinion, finding consistency is key.
“Consistency. Just being consistent for myself and this offense as a whole,” Love said, via the team’s transcripts. “When we get the opportunity to make big plays, we’ve got to make them. It just comes down to consistency every day in practice, and it’s going to translate to the games.”
In the preseason, Love completed 21-of-33 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns, recording a 109.8 passer rating in the process. Chemistry and cohesion are being built with his young supporting cast as well.
Anyone who has counted the Packers out could be in for a surprise this upcoming season. Love has been lauded for the leadership and attention he commands in the huddle, looking poised no matter what is facing him.
He has flipped the script heading into the season. The Packers are now an overlooked team, as Love has played well enough to give some people confidence that he can get the job done.
