Opinions on Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love are all over the place. While people within the organization have confidence in him getting the job done, outsiders aren’t as optimistic about his outlook.
In most quarterback power rankings, Love is ranked near the bottom. The mid-20s is the highest that he has been ranked and there is merit to that. There just isn’t much of a track record to fall back on to evaluate him.
Love, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL, has only 10 appearances and one start in three years. He spent the first three seasons of his career backing up Aaron Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets this offseason.
Sitting and learning behind a player of that caliber certainly has its perks. Love has been able to pick the mind of a future Hall of Famer and gotten plenty of reps in practice and the preseason. But, the regular season is a whole different animal.
Around the league, Love is still shrouded in mystery. However, some coaches aren’t very high on his outlook. One offensive coach in the NFL had some strong words about him, per Mike Sando of The Athletic.
“We have no idea what this guy is. My initial read is that he doesn’t process the game well enough. I don’t see a natural, smooth, instinctive player, the way he reacts to the defense.”
The Utah State product will certainly have a lot of doubters to prove wrong once the regular season rolls around. But, there was a reason that the Packers traded up in the first round in 2020 to select him as the skills are there for him to turn into a good quarterback at this level.
There is a lot of pressure on his shoulders to live up to that draft pedigree. He is also looking to carry on the legacy of Hall of Fame production that the Packers have had under center for just over three decades between Brett Favre and Rodgers.
