The Green Bay Packers face a familiar late-season dilemma: their rushing attack ranks as the league’s least effective, leaving quarterback Jordan Love without a reliable complement and the offense struggling to sustain drives.

Amid that shortfall, and with running back Josh Jacobs remaining on the commissioner’s exempt list following a May domestic incident, attention has turned toward Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley as a potential remedy before the trade deadline.

In an October 12 analysis, TJ French of Heavy.com outlined one possible framework in which the Packers would acquire Barkley in exchange for a conditional fourth-round draft selection.

The pick would escalate to a third-rounder if Barkley reaches certain snap thresholds or if Green Bay advances to the postseason.

French noted that the package reflects both Barkley’s age and the Eagles’ broader roster flux, including the midseason retirement of tackle Lane Johnson and the recent trade of interior lineman Cam Jurgens.

Philadelphia opened the year 2-0 before dropping three consecutive games, and Barkley himself has exited two of his four appearances early with a hamstring injury that currently has him listed as week-to-week.

Barkley, who turns 30 next year, carries a two-year, $41.2 million extension that runs through 2028 and includes substantial guarantees.

Through five weeks, he has recorded 36 carries for 182 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt without a touchdown.

Those numbers have been tempered by the leg issue, yet his history of explosive runs still offers the kind of perimeter threat that could force defenses to honor the ground game and open windows for Love’s play-action concepts.

For the Packers, the acquisition would also serve as insurance should the league decline to reinstate Jacobs for an extended period or should the organization ultimately choose not to reintegrate him.

From Philadelphia’s perspective, moving the running back would shed future salary obligations while returning draft capital during a stretch in which the offense has labored.

Barkley’s injury history and the remaining years on his deal likely suppress his market value relative to his peak production, making a conditional mid-round selection more plausible than a premium package.

Whether either front office ultimately pursues the conversation remains speculative; trade-deadline deals involving high-profile backs often stall over medical evaluations and cap considerations.

Still, the combination of Green Bay’s immediate ground-game void and Philadelphia’s recent losses has created a window in which the idea is at least being examined by observers.
