The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into the 2025 NFL season looking defend their championship from last season. Howie Roseman and company have done an excellent job of building out a top-tier roster in recent years.
With that being said, the team lost quite a bit of talent during the offseason. Among the players who departed were safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson via a trade, Milton Williams in free agency, Josh Sweat via free agency, Darius Slay via release, and plenty of others.
Looking at the current roster, there are a few areas that the Eagles could look to improve before the start of the regular season.
Keeping that in mind, a new suggestion has Philadelphia as one of the top potential free agency destinations for an intriguing defensive back.
Liam Rebellato of Last Word on Sports has named the Eagles as one of the top three landing spots for free agent safety Jordan Whitehead.
“The Eagles are a team that you cannot rule out of anything with aggressive General Manager Howie Roseman,” Rebellato wrote.
“The Eagles lost their hard-hitting safety, C.J. Garner Johnson, in a trade that sent him to the Houston Texans this offseason. At the safety position, the Eagles are fairly young with Sydney Brown and Reed Blankenship. The Eagles can use a veteran like Whitehead to add experience and physicality to a team that will be looking to go on another Super Bowl run.”
Last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Whitehead played in 12 games. He racked up 79 total tackles to go along with three defended passes. His best season came in 2023 with the New York Jets when he totaled 97 tackles, 0.5 sacks, four interceptions, and nine defended passes.
While this is far from being a report that Philadelphia is actually interested in signing Whitehead, it’s an interesting suggestion. Whitehead could be a good depth addition who could end up playing a key role on the Eagles’ defense.
It will be interesting to see if Philadelphia chooses to make any more roster additions before the regular season arrives. Should Roseman prioritize finding safety depth, he should look no further than Whitehead.
