5 Packers Who Stood Out During The Preseason

The Green Bay Packers wrapped up training camp and the preseason last week. That means all focus can now turn toward the regular season and their Week 1 opponent; their NFC North rivals, the Chicago Bears.

However, before that occurs, there is one last offseason task. The hardest part of the job for the front office and coaching staff is now upon us, as they have to cut the roster down to 53 players for the regular season.

Throughout the offseason, there have been a number of players who performed at a high level, making a case to earn a spot on the final roster. The Packers won’t be able to keep everyone, but they will try their best to stash players on the practice squad that don’t make the 53-man roster.

Who performed the best during the preseason to earn one of those spots? Here are five standout performers for the Packers in the three preseason games.

5. RB Emanuel Wilson

Heading into training camp, it seemed to be a three-horse race for a running back spot behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Patrick Taylor, Tyler Goodson and Lew Nichols were expected to battle it out for the No. 3 spot. But, injuries paved a path for undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson and he took full advantage.

Wilson led the NFL with 223 rushing yards in the preseason and forced 11 missed tackles, which was the most among running backs as well. With five runs of at least 10 yards, Wilson showcased his explosiveness often.

While he has a long way to go when it comes to other facets of the game, such as pass-catching and special teams, he has NFL-caliber rushing skills. If the Packers don’t keep him on the 53-man roster, they will assuredly attempt to stash on on the practice squad.
