All of the headlines involving the Green Bay Packers currently are centered on quarterback Jordan Love. He has reported to training camp, but until a new contract is worked out, he will not be practicing with the team.

That is going to be the biggest story Packers fans will be keeping an eye on. Getting Love under contract is of the utmost importance to the franchise.

With the rest of the team practicing, the coaching staff will get a look at what some of their lineups could look like once games start. One positional group people will be keeping a close eye on is the offensive line.

The Packers currently have nothing set in stone when it comes to alignment. Elgton Jenkins and Zach Tom are locked into starting spots, but where they will be playing is anyone’s guess.

Green Bay likes to cross-train its players in the trenches and that has been the case this offseason. Players are working out at different spots as Matt LaFleur and his staff figure out who works best where.

Drafting and developing offensive linemen has been a strength for the franchise. However, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report believes that it would be in the Packers’ best interest to address the offensive line depth with a veteran addition.

“Signing a veteran at either tackle or guard would give the Packers some added insurance that they can have a good offensive line in the first weeks of the season.

Greg Van Roten is an ideal target at guard. The 34-year-old played well with the Raiders last season and should be interested in an offensive system as lineman-friendly as Green Bay’s. Charles Leno might be the best available tackle option,” Ballentine wrote.

An experienced option certainly wouldn’t hurt. There is a chance the Packers go into the season with at least one rookie starting and another player who has been a backup to this point in their career.

Having some added competition certainly doesn’t hurt. The No. 1 goal of the Packers is to keep Love healthy so the offense hums and that starts with his protection up front. No expense should be spared in accomplishing that.
