The Green Bay Packers are set to begin the NFL offseason and their quest to field a Super Bowl contender next season. Brian Gutekunst and the front office have quite a few questions to answer. One of the biggest has to do with the future of star running back Aaron Jones.

Many have speculated that the Packers could move on from Jones this offseason due to cap reasons. Others have believed that the two sides could work to restructure his contract to save some money and keep him in town.

Now, Gutekunst himself has spoken out with a bold statement about the future of Jones in Green Bay.

In his season-ending press conference, Gutekunst made it very clear that he intends to keep Jones in town.

Jones has been an integral piece of the Packers’ offense for years. In 2023, he dealt with many nagging injury issues that limited him to playing in just 11 games. He carried the football 142 times for 656 yards and two touchdowns on the year.

At 29 years of age, Jones is getting close to the end of his prime. However, he will have one year left on his contract entering the 2024 season. Keeping him around for that last year at the very least is a wise decision.

Jordan Love took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2023 and performed like a superstar. In order to keep that development moving forward, the Green Bay Packers know that they need a consistent running game. Jones will be just as important to Love’s development as he is to the team’s overall success.

All of that being said, we now know the answer to the questions about Aaron Jones. He’ll be back in Green Bay next season barring a massive change.
