As we get closer to the start of the 2024 NFL season, Kalen King of the Green Bay Packers has recently received some high praise.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Packers were highly focused on getting younger and improving on the defensive side of the ball. King was selected with the 255th pick in the draft, which is just a couple of picks before Mr. Irrelevant.

King had a very solid career at Penn State, as he played three seasons for the normally very solid defense of the Nittany Lions. In three seasons, King totaled three interceptions, all of which were in his second season.

In 2022, King was trending toward being either a first or second-round pick, however, he wasn’t nearly the same player in 2023. In addition to the down season, King also didn’t run a great 40-yard dash, which is weighted heavily during the draft process for a position like cornerback. Recently, King was compared to a couple of different and very successful cornerbacks by draft guru Ben Fennell.

Ben Fennell, a draft guru who works for NFL Network, recently mentioned that his two NFL comps for King were Casey Hayward and Logan Ryan. Of note with these two players is their versatility. Hayward played both from the slot and on the boundary throughout his career, as did Ryan, who also played at safety.

Being compared to both Hayward and Ryan should be very flattering for King, but it will require a lot of work to reach that level.

As a seventh-round pick, King provides the Green Bay Packers with a player who has potential as a former All-American in college. The poor combine and 2023 season obviously plummeted King’s draft stock, but there is clearly some talent there. If King can get back to his 2022 form, the Packers will have gotten a steal.
