The Green Bay Packers are in a state of transition in 2023. This has been occurring for a few years now, but with Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets, it is a true end of an era for the franchise.
The Jordan Love era is now upon us as he will attempt to fill the shoes of a legendary player, just as Rodgers did before him with Brett Favre. Expectations and projections for the team are all over the place as no one really knows what to expect.
The roster is very inexperienced on the offensive side of the ball as the entire skill position groups around Love could be first and second-year players. When taking that into account, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the number of Packers on the top-100 players list put together by CBS Sports is lacking.
The only Packer to make the list was star cornerback Jaire Alexander. The Louisville product came in at No. 21 on the list, just ahead of emerging young quarterbacks Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence.
The only cornerbacks that were ranked ahead of Alexander on the list are Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos and Sauce Gardner of the New York Jets. They came in at No. 19 and No. 15, respectively.
While Alexander was alone on the list this year, that could very well change in the near future. There were numerous Packers that made the honorable mention list, led by running back Aaron Jones. EDGE rusher Rashan Gary, offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins and wide receiver Christian Watson also made the list.
Had Gary not gotten injured last season, he would have likely been a shoo-in for a top-100 spot as an up-and-coming pass rusher. If Watson can build upon the strong finish that he had during his rookie season, it would not be shocking to see him sneak onto the list in 2024, either.
