For years the Green Bay Packers were spoiled by the duo of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams. They struggled mightily to replace the production of Adams in 2022, as he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. Heading into 2023, none of that duo remains on the roster.
The Packers made the difficult decision to trade Rodgers to the New York Jets this offseason, ushering in a new era with Jordan Love and closing the book on another. Of course, the team is hoping that Love and maybe Christian Watson or Romeo Doubs can develop into the next great tandem in Green Bay, but those are some massive shoes to fill.
It should come as no surprise that Rodgers and Adams were named one of the best duos of the last decade by David Kenyon of Bleacher Report. They came in at No. 3 on the list, trailing only Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who spent time with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The biggest thing separating the Packers duo from the ones ahead of them was postseason success. Rodgers and Adams didn’t win a Super Bowl together, while Mahomes and Kelce just won their second and Brady and Gronkowski won four.
It is the only real difference they have as the statistics that Rodgers and Adams put together can stack up against anyone. Rodgers is one of the best to ever do it, winning three league MVPs with Adams as his go-to receiver. He had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 6.4-1, throwing 261 touchdowns compared to only 41 interceptions.
Adams’s career got off to a rocky start because of drops, but he quickly turned into a star after being selected by the Packers in the second round in 2014. During his six seasons as the go-to receiver, he averaged 96.8 receptions for 1,198.7 yards and 11.5 touchdowns.
A ring was all that that Packers duo was missing as the cherry on top of their incredible careers in the green and gold.
