Green Bay Packers wide receiver Savion Williams remains questionable for Sunday night’s Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys because of an ankle injury.
Williams, a second-year player, took part in all three practice sessions this week but stayed limited each day.
The Packers opened his 21-day practice window on Oct. 7 after he spent the first four weeks of the season on injured reserve. He did not play in last week’s game against the Chicago Bears despite the start of his return window.
Williams suffered a high-ankle sprain late in training camp, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst. Gutekunst said at the time that the injury would sideline him for at least the mandatory four games tied to an injured-reserve designation.
The 6-foot-4, 222-pound receiver must be activated to the 53-man roster by Saturday to become eligible for Sunday’s contest at Lambeau Field.
Green Bay’s wide receiver group has thinned this season. Jayden Reed is out for the year with a neck injury, and Skyy Moore has been ruled out with his own ankle problem.
Moore had been handling kickoff returns and seeing increased offensive snaps before his injury.
Williams served as Green Bay’s primary kickoff returner during his rookie season in 2025. He averaged 25.6 yards on 28 returns for a total of 717 yards.
As a receiver that year, he recorded 10 catches for 78 yards and one touchdown across 12 games. He also rushed 11 times for 37 yards.
Those numbers give him 21 offensive touches for 115 yards and one score in his brief NFL career.
Selected in the third round of the 2025 draft out of TCU with the 87th overall pick, Williams brings size and speed that coach Matt LaFleur has praised.
“I think where he’s grown the most is just his route-running ability,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “I think he’s worked really hard at it. He was out there last week running around, and he looked pretty good.”
LaFleur has also described Williams as dynamic with the ball in his hands and noted the team used him in multiple roles last season.
With the Packers facing a Sunday Night Football matchup, any activation of Williams would give the offense another option behind Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. His status is expected to become clearer after Saturday’s final roster moves.
