Heading into the 2023 season, it is anyone’s guess as to how Jordan Love will handle being the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. While he is entering the fourth season of his NFL career, he has very little in-game experience to this point.
Jordan Love has appeared in 10 games in three seasons, with one start since being a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the backup to Aaron Rodgers during that time, taking the majority of his reps in practice and preseason games.
While people within the organization are confident that he can get the job done, there will almost certainly be some bumps in the road. Not only is he short on experience, the supporting cast around him is as well.
The Packers have put together one of the youngest groups of pass catchers in the history of the NFL. There isn’t a single wide receiver on the roster with more than one year of NFL experience and his top two tight ends could be rookies.
It will be a learning experience for everyone and isn’t overly surprising that Jordan Love is near the bottom of most quarterback power rankings. One that came out recently was done by Mike Sando of The Athletic, who did his rankings in tiers.
Jordan Love came in as a tier-four quarterback, coming in at No. 26 overall. “A Tier 4 quarterback could be an unproven player (not enough information for voters to classify) or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games,” per Sando.
Just ahead of Jordan Love in the rankings is Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers and Kenny Pickett of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both are entering Year 2 of their careers and their first offseason as starters.
Tied at No. 26 with Jordan Love is Baker Mayfield. Rounding out the list is Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders, Desmond Ridder of the Atlanta Falcons and Gardner Minshew of the Indianapolis Colts. It isn’t surprising that Minshew came in at last as he could very well be replaced as the starter by Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
