The Green Bay Packers had a special guest at training camp this week. Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning was present and took some time out of his schedule to address the team.
Head coach Matt LaFleur spoke highly of Manning and how important it was for him to visit and talk to the players. Manning shared some experiences of when he was a young player in the NFL and how to respond when facing some challenges.
These were words that should hit home with the Packers, who have one of the younger rosters in the NFL. Inexperienced players litter their depth chart as they will be relying on a lot of first and second-year players in prominent roles.
One of those inexperienced players that people will be keeping an eye on is Jordan Love. Love is entering Year 4 but he has the experience of a first-year player as he has 10 appearances and only one start in three seasons. He has spent that time backing up Aaron Rodgers, but now it is his turn to showcase what he has.
While Manning did address the team as a whole, he also took time out to talk to Love individually. The Packers’ starter has revealed what the two talked about and the advice that Manning passed along to him.
Getting advice from one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time is something that Love is fortunate to receive. That is on top of the words of encouragement and advice that he receives from Rodgers, who has texted with Love since training camp opened.
Love has some big shoes to fill as the Packers have had greatness under center for the better part of three decades. While people will compare him to Favre and Rodgers, Love just has to focus on being himself and carving out his own path and legacy as the starting quarterback in Green Bay.
