The Green Bay Packers are going to be relying on a lot of young players to carry their offense during the 2023 season. One of the players that they will be counting on the most is second-year wide receiver, Romeo Doubs.
A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada, Doubs is expected to be a big piece of the team’s passing game along with 2022 second-rounder, Christian Watson. Thus far this offseason, Doubs has been lauded for how well he has looked, as some even believe that he will be Jordan Love’s No. 1 target.
If he can continue making plays as he did in practice this week, the No. 1 spot in the pecking order could very well be is. Doubs recently made a big play during Packers’ practice while matched up with star cornerback, Jaire Alexander.
In one-on-one drills, Love threw a deep ball up to Doubs, who adjusted nicely to the somewhat underthrown ball to make an impressive catch over Alexander. As Dov Kleiman of Twitter dubbed, it, Doubs ‘Mossed” Alexander for the highlight reel touchdown. Video provided by OberSports on Twitter.
Doubs certainly possesses the size to win downfield, standing 6’2” with good strength and speed. All of his best qualities were on display during that play against Alexander, giving the offense a rare win at Packers practice over the defense.
In 13 games as a rookie, Doubs was targeted 67 times, catching 42 passes. He compiled 425 yards and three touchdowns and will look to build upon those numbers in Year 2.
The opportunity is certainly there for a big jump as the Packers’ offense is void of established veterans. That will present players such as Doubs a chance to produce early and often and become a go-to target for Love in the passing game.
