All eyes have been on Jordan Love this offseason. He is taking over as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback this offseason, replacing future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. There is a lot of pressure on him to not only continue the tradition of excellence that Rodgers had but that of Brett Favre as well.
The Packers have been spoiled, having 30 years of Hall of Fame production consecutively. They are hoping that Jordan Love will continue that standard to the chagrin of every other franchise in the NFL.
Heading into the preseason, there were a lot of questions about what the Packers’ offense would look like. Jordan Love remained a mystery for many as he made only 10 appearances, including one start, in his first three seasons in the NFL. Most of his work came in the preseason, as he had only 83 regular-season pass attempts.
But, if anyone doubted the 2020 first-round pick, some of those concerns have been put to bed. If the preseason was an indication of things to come, the Packers offense should find plenty of success in the 2023 season. Jordan Love played well during his stints in the preseason, playing efficiently and leading touchdown drives.
Ted Nguyen of The Athletic is one of the analysts who feels much better about the Packers and their offense heading into the 2023 season after their preseason performance. Yes, the games don’t count for anything, but there is still value in getting live reps. Jordan Love and the first-team offense took full advantage of it.
“Love was one of those trendy toolsy quarterback prospects with accuracy and decision-making issues in college. He spent his first three seasons mostly sitting and developing behind Aaron Rodgers. In his first two preseasons, I never thought Love looked comfortable for long stretches and his accuracy was sporadic. This year, he looked calm going through his progressions and made some rare throws from the pocket. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur will sprinkle in some option plays to take advantage of his legs and I trust him to scheme up open throws. Love has one of the best offensive lines in the NFC — he was rarely pressured in the preseason — and a young, talented group of emerging skill players in Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Luke Musgrave. He has everything he needs for a breakout season.”
Seeing some of the young playmakers in action during the preseason has to have made Packers fans excited. There was never a concern about their skill level or talent; the biggest concern was their lack of experience, which didn’t cause issues in training camp.
There will assuredly be bumps in the road during the regular season playing against everyone’s first team. But, Jordan Love showed a nice ability to bounce back throughout the offseason. He didn’t let mistakes discourage him, instead using them as learning experiences to further develop his game.
