The Green Bay Packers wrapped up their second week of the preseason with a game against the New England Patriots on Saturday night. The game was called early because of a scary injury to the Patriots’ rookie cornerback Isaiah Bolden, resulting in a Patriots 21-17 victory.
Despite the game not being played to completion, there were still a number of standout performers on the Packers’ side. There were a few very high grades recorded on the evening, but none higher than pass rusher, Kingsley Enagbare.
Enagbare had only eight pass-rushing opportunities, but he made the most of them. He produced two pressures, both of which resulted in sacks. On one of the sacks, he was able to force a fumble by Patriots’ quarterback Mac Jones and recover the ball himself.
His 96.4 overall grade is the highest by a Packers player thus far in the preseason. He will almost assuredly be recognized as one of the standout performers around the league in Preseason Week 2.
Enagbare wasn’t the only Packers player to have a grade north of 90 this past weekend. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs joined the 90+ club with a grade of 91. He caught two passes for 52 yards on just nine routes. His grade went up as both of his receptions were counted as ‘contested catches’ on the grading system.
Rounding out the top five for the Packers were all offensive players. Coming in at No. 3 was offensive guard, Jon Runyan Jr. The starter at right guard didn’t give up a single pressure and had the highest run-blocking grade on the team, resulting in an 87 overall grade.
Starting quarterback Jordan Love had the fourth-highest grade for the Packers with an 86.9. He has now put together back-to-back strong performances this preseason as he gears up for his first regular season as the starter.
Against New England, he completed 5-of-8 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. He was credited with a big-time throw on a 42-yard completion to Doubs and hit rookie Jayden Reed for the score, which went for 19 yards. His grade was bolstered by an 11-yard scramble on the touchdown drive.
Rounding out the top five is wide receiver Malik Heath. In a roster battle for the final wide receiver spot on the 53-man roster, it is getting tougher and tougher to come up with any reason that he shouldn’t make the final cut.
The undrafted receiver out of Ole Miss caught all five of his targets for 75 yards, running a total of 18 routes. He received a grade of 83, being credited with two contested catches and averaging north of 4.0 yards per route run.
