Green Bay Packers Named Top Trade Destination For Star Playmaker

The Green Bay Packers already have a rather impressive stable of young wide receivers, but they could use a true No. 1 option in their mix.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has named Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper as a top potential trade acquisition for the Packers.

Cooper would be exactly what Green Bay needs at the top of its receiving corps, which includes Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton.

The Packers’ youthful wide outs are certainly talented, which means the Browns would have their pick of the litter when it comes to deciding who they would require in return for Cooper.

Of course, this is dependent on whether or not Cleveland would even want to move the five-time Pro Bowler.

The Browns won 11 games last year in spite of Deshaun Watson only appearing in six contests, and they are widely viewed as playoff contenders heading into 2024.

However, if Cleveland falls out of the race, the Browns may decide to try to trade Cooper before the Nov. 5 deadline.

Cooper’s contract expires next offseason, so Cleveland may ultimately want to get something in return for the star pass-catcher now before losing him for nothing in free agency.

The 30-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns.

But what would it take to pry Cooper away from the Browns?

The Packers could include one of their young receivers and a Day 1 draft pick, although they may view parting with such an early draft choice as too steep of a cost given that there is no guarantee they will re-sign Cooper next March.

That being said, Green Bay is ready to contend for a Super Bowl now, so perhaps it will deem the potential trade package worth the risk.

Cooper spent the first three-and-a-half years of his career with the Oakland Raiders before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys midway through the 2019 campaign.

The University of Alabama product has posted seven 1,000-yard efforts in nine NFL seasons, which is certainly an impressive feat.

The Green Bay Packers went 9-8 last season and upset the Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. They then went on to lose to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

Matt LaFleur’s club will open up its 2024 campaign in Brazil when it takes on the Philadelphia Eagles this Friday.
