The drama between the Green Bay Packers and superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers has taken center stage this offseason. Even with training camp coming up quickly, we still have no clue whether or not the reigning NFL MVP will take the field with his team in Week 1. That has led NFL analyst and former league star wideout Keyshawn Johnson make a bold statement about what the Packers should have already done.

Johnson, in a quote on ESPN’s First Take, stated that the Packers should have traded Rodgers “yesterday.”

“They should’ve got rid of him yesterday,” Johnson said on Friday. “It’s not because he’s a bad guy. It’s because he’s going to be a distraction throughout the entire season.”

Here is the video of Johnson talking about the situation so that you can hear what he had to say for yourself:

Plenty of media members have thrown their two cents out about the situation, but Johnson is one of the most forward. Trading Rodgers seems like something the Packers have no interest in doing. They have remained consistent with their public statements that they have no plans to trade Rodgers.

However, what Keyshawn Johnson is saying makes a ton of sense and should be a major concern for Green Bay. If Rodgers is truly that unhappy with the Packers, he could split the locker room. He already has received major support from superstar wide receiver Davante Adams, who even went as far as to say that if Rodgers left town it would make him reconsider his future with the team.

At this point in the offseason, the Packers are in between a rock and a hard place. They can keep Rodgers and hope that he plays, or they can trade him late and not be able to use a draft pick until next offseason. Either way, this situation has gotten ugly and has messed up Green Bay’s Super Bowl hopes.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the Packers end up doing with Aaron Rodgers. It seems likely that the team will keep him for this season, but we still don’t know for sure.
