Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers have been through the ringer this offseason. The situation surrounding superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has gotten ugly. Even at this point in the offseason, no one knows if Rodgers will ever take another snap for the Packers.

Should Rodgers choose to sit out the season, or even retire as has been reported that he is considering, the Packers would have Jordan Love, Blake Bortles, and Kurt Benkert as the top quarterbacks on their roster. To many, that is a scary thought. But to Matt LaFleur, he remains cool, calm, and collected.

In a quote shared by ESPN, LaFleur opened up about his confidence in the Packers’ quarterback situation.

“We’ll have one plan,” LaFleur said. “We’ve kind of pretty much laid that out. Just going to fine-tune some things over the next few weeks in terms of the logistics of our schedule and whatnot. We’ve got what we feel is a pretty good blueprint in terms of how to get our guys ready to play. Obviously, it is a little bit different this year in terms of the number of preseason games and then you compare it to last year, so you’re kind of leaning back on the 2019 season. We feel confident with what we’ll have in place with the guys. We’ll look forward to getting them back July 27.”

At this point in time, the Packers are preparing as if Love will be their starting quarterback in Week 1. Bortles was signed to provide veteran leadership and to be a backup in case Love struggles or gets hurt. Benkert has never taken an NFL snap, just like Love, but Green Bay has liked what they have seen from him in offseason activities.

Love certainly has the raw talent to be a good NFL starting quarterback. However, there are a lot of questions about whether or not he is ready to play right now. If he isn’t, Bortles has had a roller coaster of a career in the NFL, but has shown flashes of being a very capable starting quarterback.

If the Packers have Rodgers under center, they will once again be considered serious Super Bowl contenders. On the other hand, if he is traded or sits out, the Packers will be viewed as a playoff caliber team, but no one will buy them as a Super Bowl winning team.

Only time will tell what happens with the Packers’ quarterback situation. But, fans should remain confident like head coach Matt LaFleur is right now. Things will work out and Green Bay will be just fine.
