The Green Bay Packers and Matt LaFleur are heading into training camp with no knowledge of what to expect from Aaron Rodgers. Will he play this season or will he follow through and sit out because he doesn’t want to play for the franchise again? If that is the case, Jordan Love will be thrust into the starting quarterback role without seeing a game of action in his rookie season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Love was unable to play even a snap in the preseason. All preseason games were cancelled, which left Love only getting reps during practice. With Rodgers as the clear-cut starter, the rookie never had much of a chance and had to learn from the sidelines.

With the chances looking more and more likely that Love will be the starting quarterback for the Packers to open the season, LaFleur revealed what he has told Love about being a starter.

“You are only 1 play away so you have to prepare like you are the starter…”

It’s a short message, but it’s one that makes a lot of sense. Love has a ton of pressure on his shoulders no matter what Rodgers decides to do. He has to prepare like a starter now.

So far this offseason, there have been mixed reviews on Love’s performance in practice. Some have said he looks awful and unprepared to be the starter, while others think the exact opposite. No one will truly know what the Packers have in Love until we see him on the field in the preseason, and Matt LaFleur has to be excited to see what he is capable of doing.

During his last season at Utah State, Jordan Love put up decent numbers. He completed 61.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,402 yards and 20 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also threw 17 interceptions.

Back in 2018 with the Aggies, he put up much bigger and better numbers. He racked up 3,567 passing yards to go along with 32 touchdowns and six interceptions.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening for the Packers the rest of the offseason. Aaron Rodgers has to make a decision, but Green Bay seems fairly confident in Love. If he ends up being the starter, Love has to take things one play a time and be prepared for the pressure opposing defense are going to throw his way.
