Quarterback Jordan Love has been the talk of Green Bay Packers camp, but a majority of the discussion has been negative. The team’s offense has predictably struggled in the early going of training camp.
That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the Packers’ defense has the pieces to be among the best in the NFL. Lapping the offense in terms of experience as well, they should be dominating when the two units face off against each other.
But, that has not stopped some analysts from providing some harsh criticisms of Love and the offense. One analyst in particular who has ripped into Love is Adam Schein of CBS Sports. At one point during his analysis, he made a comment about the Utah State product not being able to “do a d–m thing.”
Unsurprisingly, that was something that Love’s teammates didn’t take kindly to. Veteran linebacker De’Vondre Campbell came to the defense of his teammate on social media, sending a scathing message back about Schein.
“Ain’t no way you just got on here with that baggy ass Steve Harvey suit and them thick ass dollar tree glasses and disrespected my QB by saying he can’t play football. He only has one career start let him play at least half a season before you open your big dumb ass mouth,” Campbell said on Twitter.
While Campbell was the one to voice his feelings on social media, he is far from the only player who has Love’s back. That locker room is confident in him getting the job done when his number will be called during the regular season.
They know there will be some growing pains; he has only 10 appearances, including one start, in his first three seasons in the NFL. Replacing a legend such as Aaron Rodgers isn’t easy, but the Packers are hopeful that he will find his way, just as Rodgers did when he replaced Brett Favre.
Criticizing Love for how he looks in practice with an inexperienced group of skill-position players around him seems premature. This group needs some time to not only gel but move past the Rodgers era as well.
If these struggles persist throughout the regular season, then harsh criticism is warranted. But, until then, the Packers just need to focus on the field and put Love in as good of a position to succeed as possible.
