Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander is one of the best in the business. A first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Louisville, he has turned into a bonafide star.
Tasked with defending the No. 1 receiver on the opposing team, Jaire Alexander has found success no matter who he is matched up against. In his six seasons, he has earned Pro Bowl honors twice and made the All-Pro Second Team twice.
Entering 2024, Jaire Alexander has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. The 2023 campaign was not a strong one for him despite the success the Packers had.
He played in only seven games, battling injury throughout the season. He also butt heads with the coaching staff at points, resulting in a one-game suspension late in the season.
With a clean slate heading into the 2024 offseason, Jaire Alexander has focused more on being a selfless player. He wants to do whatever it takes to help the team win, and as one of the most experienced players on the team, needs to set an example for his teammates to follow.
Despite the down performance in 2023, Jaire Alexander is still highly regarded. Over at Pro Football Network, Dallas Robinson put together a list of the top 100 players in the NFL.
Coming in at No. 90 was Jaire Alexander. He is one of three Packers players to make the list, with Jordan Love coming in at No. 58 and Xavier McKinney being ranked 96th.
“Jaire Alexander’s high-end play is as good as nearly any NFL corner’s, but injuries have kept him off the field. A shoulder sprain cost him 13 games in 2021, while another shoulder issue kept Alexander on the sidelines for all but seven games in 2023.
However, he earned second-team All-Pro nods in 2020 and 2022, allowing a sub-70 passer rating in both seasons. If he can stay healthy, Alexander is the best player on a rebuilt Packers defense,” Robinson wrote.
Jaire Alexander is ninth among cornerbacks in the NFL based on Robinson’s ranking. That is something he will be looking to change, as he was regarded as a top-five player at the position entering the 2023 season.
A return to form would do wonders for the Packers. The safety position has been upgraded, taking some pressure off of Jaire Alexander as the only reliable option in the team’s secondary.
With Jeff Hafley taking over as the team’s defensive coordinator, there is optimism that this unit will vastly improve in 2024. Jaire Alexander returning to the level of play he had the seasons prior to 2023 would help immensely.
