There are going to be a lot of eyes on the Green Bay Packers and their offense during the 2023 season. That is because, for the first time since 2008, the green and gold won’t have Aaron Rodgers under center as the starting quarterback. Instead, this year marks the start of the Jordan Love era.
The 2020 first-round pick out of Utah State will be taking over the Packers’ offense after waiting in the wings for three seasons. He has very limited regular season experience, appearing in only 10 games, with one start, and throwing 83 total passes.
Despite the lack of reps, coaches and teammates have expressed confidence that Love will be able to get the job done. While predicting what kind of production he will have is difficult given the lack of track record, NFL.com recently shared some for Fantasy Football in 2023.
If Love can produce at the level that he has been projected for, there will be a lot of happy people in Green Bay. In 16 games, Love is projected to throw for 3,769 yards with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. On the ground, he will add 249 yards and two more scores.
The interception number is certainly quite high, but as a first-time starter, you are expecting some bumps in the road. Only C.J. Stroud, Justin Hebert and Bryce Young, two rookies, are projected to have more interceptions during the season than Love.
The touchdown prediction would put him at 19th in the NFL and the yardage would be 18th. If you told that to the Packers right now, they would likely be ecstatic as that would provide the team with a strong foundation to build upon.
There is a lot of potential in this Packers’ offense, but there will be some bumps in the road. Just like Love, most of his supporting cast is very inexperienced as well. His starting wide receivers could all be first and second-year players, while his top two tight ends could also be rookies.
Putting up those kinds of numbers that he is projected for given the circumstances would be considered a win. While not quite as prolific as the first season Rodgers had under center, the Packers would be very happy about the future should Love approach those numbers.
