Coming into the 2023 regular season, the Green Bay Packers weren’t a team that Fantasy Football managers were looking to get major shares of. Outside of running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, the offense is a major unknown.
No one knew how Jordan Love would look as the team’s starting quarterback. Predicting who his go-to weapons in the passing game would be was an even tougher task. Many presumed the No. 1 would be Christian Watson, but he is trending toward missing his second straight game to start the season because of a hamstring ailment.
Without Watson, other players need to step up. In Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, that is exactly what happened. Despite being limited by a hamstring injury of his own, Romeo Doubs stepped up when his number was called.
That led to Doubs catching four passes for 26 yards and two touchdowns, making him a Fantasy Football waiver wire target in Week 2. Despite playing fewer than 50 percent of the snaps, he was targeted on 25 percent of his routes run.
He is someone that Love trusts and is trending in the right direction for season-long production. Another wide receiver that is getting on the Fantasy Football radar is rookie Jayden Reed. Reed was the starting slot receiver during training camp and preseason and that continued in Week 1.
His role didn’t change with the injuries to Watson and Doubs as he played a majority of snaps in the slot. He did receive a 25 percent target rate, which is an encouraging sign for the future. Also encouraging is that he is the locked-in slot receiver, Green Bay doesn’t look to be rotating as in years past.
Last but not least, another player Fantasy Football manager should consider on the waiver wire is tight end Luke Musgrave. He caught three passes for 50 yards, which made him one of the most productive players at the position in Fantasy Football in Week 1.
His afternoon could have been even bigger as the opportunity for two scores just evaded him. Love overthrew him once and on the second chance, he lost his footing for what would have been an easy touchdown.
The clear starting tight end in every personnel group, Musgrave dominated snaps and target share at the position. With a locked-in role and huge upside for usage, you aren’t going to find many tight ends with a better situation on free agency than Musgrave.
