As the Green Bay Packers put in their final preparations before training camp gets underway, there are a few areas of concern that exist on the roster. The biggest one is the inexperience that exists offensively.

Everyone will be keeping an eye on Jordan Love as he takes over the starting quarterback job for the first time in his career. While surrounded by the best running back duo in the NFL, the other skill positions are nearly as inexperienced as he is.

There isn’t a single wide receiver on the roster with more than one season of NFL experience and the top two tight ends could both be rookies as well. However, what they are lacking in experience they more than make up for in upside as the Packers could have a very talented group of skill position players in no time.

Saying inexperience is the team’s biggest concern this offseason would be a feasible answer, but that isn’t the direction that Matt Schneidman of The Athletic opted to go. Instead, he believes the biggest concern for the Packers is the safety position.

Schneidman makes mention of the fact the Packers are turning to Darnell Savage Jr. once again to handle one starting spot. Savage was excellent the first three seasons of his career but played so poorly last season that he was benched at one point.

His replacement, Rudy Ford, didn’t play at a much higher level and is now in the mix to play alongside Savage. With Adrian Amos moving on in free agency, there is at least one opening in the safety position; some people would say both are open.

The only additions made to the position were Jonathan Owens and Tarvarius Moore. Owens started all 17 games for the Houston Texans last season, so he at least has experience should he be relied upon for a large role.

But, this is an area of the defense opponents are surely going to target. The Packers are strong on the boundary with Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes, so it would not be shocking to see offenses funnel their attacks up the middle, where Green Bay has also struggled mightily to slow down the run.

If the Packers want to make another addition to the safety position, John Johnson has been mentioned as a possible target on multiple occasions. He would bring experience and be a steady performer in pass coverage, something the team desperately needs.
