When stacking the roster of the Green Bay Packers against others in the NFL, there are certainly some positions that need work. But, they are hopeful that some of the youth on the team will develop and turn into solid players in the NFL.
Alas, there are also some standouts that are among the best players not only at their respective positions but in the entire league. Dalton Miller of Pro Football Network recently did a top 100 players power ranking, but it wasn’t your ordinary rankings.
He removed positional value from the equation as that skews heavily toward some players. Instead, players were ranked based on their talent and level of performance compared to others at the position.
The change in how players were ranked certainly helped get two Packers on the list. Cornerback Jaire Alexander was the highest-rated one, coming in at No. 39. Coming off of his second Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team nomination of his career, this is a spot that he has earned with his performance.
“Alexander is the epitome of the crap-talking, trolling defensive back, a trait that has followed him from his days in college. Even though the Packers’ defense produced underwhelming results in 2022, Alexander was one of the few aspects that did not drop off.”
Alexander is one of the few players the Packers know they can count on heading into the 2023 season. Their cornerback group is arguably the strongest one they have on their roster with Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes behind him. Only three cornerbacks, Jalen Ramsey, Sauce Gardner and Patrick Surtain II, were ranked ahead of Alexander.
Another player on the defense that is a stalwart is defensive lineman, Kenny Clark. He was the second Packers player to be featured on the top 100, coming in at No. 85.
“But as one of the league’s few true noses that can actually be a pass-rushing threat, Clark deserves his rightful spot on the list. His club-and-rip move still devastates blockers, especially when he’s crossing their face to bend around the arc.”
Clark, who is only turning 28 years old this year, is going to be leaned on as the grizzled old veteran along the defensive line. It is a role that he is looking forward to filling as he knows how important it is. There were veterans who helped him when he was looking to make an impact in the NFL and now it is his turn to help the next young crop of Packers defenders.
